Introducing
Weblog's for SecureWebs Customers

We have a nice little open source ASP/.mdb driven weblog that is
available to all virtual customers that have any account larger
than a STOCK account. If anyone thinks they want to
give it a try, just email "support@securewebs.com"
and request your weblog. There is no special information
that is required other than the domain name. We will
install the weblog in a folder under your domain name, setup
the correct permissions on the database, and turn the keys over
to you. Trial and error should have you figuring out
the basics in no time.

And you thought learning to
type and play with computers didn't pay.
Have you always wanted to make a good living doing what you
love - and you love computers, just anything to do with
them? You don't want to give up those dreams yet.
Using United States as an example, the
average annual wage for workers in the general IT industry was
$67,440 last year, by contrast, the average annual salary for
all private industry workers was $36,520. When someone
claims that the future is the "information age", they
may have a point. |
Anti-Spam
Update
The new anti-virus servers are doing a fine job of catching from
70 to 95% of all spam. It is available at no cost to all
customers who register a new virtual account (with the exception of
the STOCK account) and any dedicated server customers.
If your domain account already exists, we are asking a one-time fee
of $10 per domain. You can order any number of
anti-spam
installation using a simple form.
Google - take
advantage of PageRank to get your site noticed.
I am pleased to say we always believed Google would be a winner.
They focused on Internet search with a clean fast loading site and
never have wavered. And now they dominate the search
market place with over 80% of all Internet search! The
art and science of getting your site pages displayed on Google is
the focus of countless Internet marketing websites. And it is
well worth the effort, even to the exclusion of all other search
engines to give some thought on how it works.
You can go a long way by just realizing that one of the most important factor that
influence where your site is listed is
PageRank. Google uses over 100 factors but what
sites you link to and how important they are is very
critical to being listed favorably.
You can find out
how "linked" your site is with a visit to
Google.
Type in the following:
link:[your
full URL]
i.e. link:[http://www.securewebs.com]
There are several
considerations how to increase your site popularity. If you have
some tricks and tips to share let us know and we will share them in
the next newsletter should the topic prove a popular one.
SecureWebs is Readying an
Affiliate Program
As mentioned above, linking to other sites is important.
We intend to encourage our customers to do just that and we advise
you to follow suit. Linking is good. Links to other
sites from yours is a good idea. And we are also looking at
excuses and reasons to link back to our customers. For
example, a directory of web developers is under consideration.
In short, anyone who
displays a SecureWebs banner, button or link will be rewarded.
What makes a good affiliate program? Do you want
cash, credit, gifts or something else? Please drop us a
note with your thoughts to
sales@securewebs.com. Our affiliate program is
expected to be ready by the first week of February. |

WORST VIRUS
YEAR
We can't say
it better than Sharon Gaudin from IT Management
"In 2003, viruses and worms not only caused billions of
dollars in damages and clean-up costs. They went so far as to
shake the Internet's backbone. They slowed down travel, halted
911 calls, and knocked out ATM machines. From the Slammer attack
in January to the MSBlaster and Sobig family that attacked in
August, it was one rough year."
SecureWebs felt the impact and
we don't know anyone working in the IT field that does not have
a few more war stories to tell. It is our earnest
intention to beat last years uptime figures and SecureWebs has
fought back hard with new and larger routers, better
multi-homing among backbones and a higher percentage of unused
capacity. At stake is no less than the livelihood of
SecureWebs and all their customers who are not in business when
they are offline. A responsibility we take very seriously.
We are doing everything we can to put the "Secure" into
"SecureWebs".

SSL Web Mail Introduced
And speaking
of security, SecureWebs has added a new wrinkle to web email
security - SSL email. If you feel the need for accessing
the mail server via a SSL connection, just let us know and we
will enable y our
connection with SSL. The idea is that email passwords and
such are sent across the Internet in a encrypted form. If
you want to receive a URL to access the mail server with send a
message to "support@securewebs.com"
and a list of any domains that you want this ability with.
There is no charge for this feature.
